Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust

Distribution of Provision During Covid

A decision was taken by the Bala Mandir management to support the parents of the day scholars by providing a small provision bag for each of them. About 245 parents received an assorted dry ration packet consisting of 5 kg  rice, 1 litre oil, ½ kg thur dhal, ½ kg wheat flour, ¼ Kg tamarind, sambar powder, chilly powder, semiya, turmeric and salt. These were distributed through a two day camp held in the schools. For those who could not attend the camp, the provisions were sent across to their homes. Provisions were also given to the children in the Home who had gone home during the lockdown.

MNC also reached out to regular donors and well wishers to get provision bags for the needy. Many of the regular donors were very supportive and helped by personally donating for provision bags for the MNC parents who were daily workers and lost their jobs during this lockdown period. The Bhoomika Trust was a great source of support, and provided not just basic ration items but also protein rich pulses, jaggery and other such items which are important for healthy meals for special children. The Trust’s Managing Trustee Mrs. Aruna Subramanium’s philanthropic help was deeply appreciated. In addition to this, the Rotary Club of Madras Besant Nagar, Dist 3232 donated two dozen provision bags containing 14 items which are staple for the diet of special children.

A number of migrant workers from Orissa who were working on the erstwhile Vocational Training Centre building were stuck in Tamil Nadu due to the lockdown. Bala Mandir provided them with a place to stay and supported them till they could get passes to move out to their hometowns.
